The Making of Tapai

Tapai is actually rice wine. Famous among locals. It is fermented, rice-based beverages. I had this opportunity to witness and experience the whole process of making tapai. A very simple way to prepare this beverages.

1. The first step in making tapai, a tajau is selected. Make sure that it is clean for the tapai storage.

2. Prepare rice. (I got it from the Tamu, a low grade rice is preferable. The price is RM22 per10kg.)

3. This big pot will be used to cook the rice. ( You can choose how to cook the rice, modern way or traditional way). Don't forget to prepare clean area to cool the cooked rice. Also, make sure the 'sasad' or yeast are in the good condition.

4. Wash the rice and pour in water. (the same method as cooking rice for your family)

5. After the rice is cooked, put it on the clean area to cool it before mixing it with the sasad.

6. While waiting for the rice to be cool, crushed the sasad into powder.

7. Mix the sasad powder with the cooked rice.

8. Now, put the mixed rice with sasad inside the tajau. ( Cover it with plastic to prevent anything crawl into it. Let the fermentation for months. The longer you kept it, the better the quality).

Sabah State Museum

Museum? Again? May be when you read this blog, some of you will say "Oh no, once again..so boring!!" Eh, HELLO..when was the last time you visit this place?haha.. I remember that words!! (The last time I visited this place was about 18 years ago..Ouchh!! :p) I took the chance to visit this place when I undergo my training at HQE.
Strictly,no pictures inside the building!! Oh ok..but I still can take pictures outside the building.. :) What I could describe about the building? It keeps Sabahan identity. At every corner of the building you can see the reality of Sabah. If you are about to learn culture of Sabahan, this is the most suitable place for you. Head hunting culture? Unduk Ngadau? The death inside a big 'tajau'? The traditional clothes for ethnics? The development of transportation system? The development of communication system? There's too many great things to learn inside the building.
Have a walk outside the building, you can find a bridge that bring you to the real traditional houses. All of the houses belong to the ethnics of Sabah. Touch the wall, roof, floor and stairs, they are made up from the exact materials used by our great grandpa. Exciting? For me, of course :)
Nowadays, there's a lot of accommodation that leading us to luxurious life. Back to our great grandma's time, this probably the most comfortable life for them. No air cond., no fan, no rice cooker, no television, no handphone...
The surrounding area.

Outside the Museum building, a few model of cars still in a good condition to be shown to the new generation. While inside the Museum, you will be able to learn the history of transportation in Sabah.
Try this :)

My friends are so cute :)

This is Sabah State Museum, take your time to learn about Sabah.

Parking Lots, Centre Point Sabah

This were some pictures that I had taken from Centre Points parking lots. Well, "Macam di KK"? :)

Kota Marudu

Situated in the northern region of Sabah,Kota Marudu is bordered by Kudat, Kota Belud, Pitas and Beluran. Recently I had the chance to visit Kota Marudu after 10 years. The roads were much better than 10 years ago.

When I asked my grandpa, he preferred to call this place as "Bandau". I wonder why this place called "Kota Marudu". I began to google the history of this place. What I can conclude here is, Kota Marudu is formerly known as "Bandau". And Bandau is derived from the KadazanDusun word "Mondou", which according to local ancient folklore is a buffalo-like creature that had caused the residents much terror. When Shariff Osman, a local warrior built the famous port on Marudu Bay, the district's name was consequently changed to Kota Marudu.

Taman Awan Teluk Likas

Located near the Coastal Highway, Taman Awam Teluk Likas provides a nice scenery where we can release our stressful mind.. As for me, I am working six day per week :( What I can say about this place is, hmm I find out that it is cleaner than T.A Beach.. You can arrange a BBQ, gathering with friends, community activity or even going alone. Another good thing I can say about this place is, there's public toilet. So don't worry if you get wet by "mandi-manda" activity.

Hmm..other than a beautiful scenery..sea, sand, flower, road, skies, Yayasan Sabah building... There's ice-cream sellers, if you come at the right time..Anyway, welcome to Teluk Likas. :)
